Dumb thing to tell Newspaper
The coach admits that his wrestler lost 3 pounds in two hours?
Three hours after his mother ruled him out of Nansemond River’s Toys for Tots Holiday Tournament with the flu, Nick Garland called his coach.
“How early can you be there tomorrow?” Garland asked Tripp Seed.
“How early do you need me to be?” Seed asked.
Garland, a Nansemond River sophomore who wrestles at 113 pounds, missed the previous day’s practice with the flu. He’d left that night’s workout after about an hour. Unable to practice, he’d gained weight and didn’t have the strength to work out to lose it.
“He was three pounds overweight,” Seed said. “He worked out from 5 to 7 to make weight. He stopped once, at about 5:30, and said he wasn’t sure he could do it. I said that was fine, but we had to make a decision.”
Garland didn’t just wrestle, he won Most Outstanding Wrestler at the tournament, and has gone on to improve to 22-0, a performance that has helped the Warriors to a 14-8 start and a No. 5 seed in the Black & Blue Division of this year’s Virginia Duals.
