Rankings have been *updated*. Click on the the "2011 >November" link to the right to view.

Also, these are simply my rankings on how I feel the district will shake "as is". They are in no way a true reflection of how the district should be seeded. Although, I am not far off ;)

There are still a few mysteries to be solved.  Will Greenhaulgh(CRT) and Miner(EV) make it back?  How are we going to feed Southampton into our tournament?  Caroline beat southampton on criteria so and kid from Caroline whom won makes it easier to seed the Southampton opponent. Its going to be interesting.

David Brown Memorial Tournament

Very Challenging 32 man bracket with Single A, AA, and AAA teams from all walks of Virginia. The finals were saturated with 2011 AA and AAA state placers and qualifiers. Most weights required real "bracket busters" to make there way to the podium.

Eastern View did a great job with this tournament.

Mat Notes:

  • (not complaining-helping for future) A tournament of this magnitude requires a seeding meeting.
  • Alex Turley(TD) is an animal on the mat.
  • Rumor had it that Mark Darr(HYL) gave Cody Allala all he wanted a week ago and it showed here.
  • Hylton's Bowers brothers were alot better then I expected.
106- Ramey blistered his way to the finals not having to wrestle in a single 2nd period. He was the able to edge out Lee-Davis's Chris Morris 6-5. Kaine Smith(KG) was a match away from placing; pinning Culpeper's Chris Heath in the process.

113-Quesch(EV) 6th, Tre Evans(SPOT) and Hall(KG) did not place.

120-Aldiva(EV) 5th, Counts(CUL) 6th. Oborne(KG) and Evans (SPOT) did not place.

126-Willums(EV) had very strong showing getting 3rd. Kraiser(EV) did not place.

132- Engh(CUL) and Pritt(EV) met up in this one for 5th and 6th respectively. Engh let a very winnable trip to the finals slip away against a very determined Dylan Hitt(Rappahannock County). Edivan(SPOT) and Hazelwood(EV) did not place.

138-Jenkins(EV) battled back to get 3rd after losing a tight one to Casey Bowers(HYL) in the semis. Bewick(KG) and Cronin(SPOT) did not place.

145- The 28th seed Drew Zoller(Thomas Dale) found a way to win this one. Lynch(EV) got 3rd continuing to show why this sport allows 3 periods of wrestling. I saw a few resilient come from behind victories. Anderson(SPOT) 6th.  Hinkes(KG) and Brooks(CUL) did not place.

152- Shurina(EV) suffered an early loss but ended up getting 3rd(the hard way). Webb(KG) made it to the semi's but then the clock struck midnight getting 6th. Da. Dwyer(CUL) and Smith(SPOT) did not place.

160-Tucker(KG) 2nd; pinned his way to the finals where he then proceeded to get takin to the wood shed by Mark Darr(HYL). Stacy(SPOT), Di. Dwyer(CUL), and Layher(EV) did not place. Layher was a match away from the podium.

170-Eakins(KG) 4th, This young man is benefiting from having  good practice partners and seems to be peaking at the right time. Torres(EV) and Thomas(SPOT) did not place.

182- Only Vick(CUL) was in this weight. I'm not sure if he won his match in the consi-quarters to place or not. I apologise.

195- Once again I do not believe Brackenridge(CUL), Hunly(EV), or Garrant(KG) placed.

220- Lost track

285- Pollard(EV) managed to take home the title. 285 wasn't very strong. No real buzz saws to speak of but none the less deserves gratitude. Carrol(CUL) made it to the podium by virtue of byes and forfeits and I am not sure if Thomas(SPOT) placed.

Dumb thing to tell Newspaper

The coach admits that his wrestler lost 3 pounds in two hours?

Three hours after his mother ruled him out of Nansemond River’s Toys for Tots Holiday Tournament with the flu, Nick Garland called his coach.
“How early can you be there tomorrow?” Garland asked Tripp Seed.
“How early do you need me to be?” Seed asked.
Garland, a Nansemond River sophomore who wrestles at 113 pounds, missed the previous day’s practice with the flu. He’d left that night’s workout after about an hour. Unable to practice, he’d gained weight and didn’t have the strength to work out to lose it.
“He was three pounds overweight,” Seed said. “He worked out from 5 to 7 to make weight. He stopped once, at about 5:30, and said he wasn’t sure he could do it. I said that was fine, but we had to make a decision.”
Garland didn’t just wrestle, he won Most Outstanding Wrestler at the tournament, and has gone on to improve to 22-0, a performance that has helped the Warriors to a 14-8 start and a No. 5 seed in the Black & Blue Division of this year’s Virginia Duals.
